The Cart Girl

The Cart Girl

In it for the beverages, the banter, and the 19th hole. Golf is the excuse.

I. Who She Is

Off the books, on the patio.

She didn't pick up golf for the sport. She picked it up for the scene. The cold drink on Hole 4. The gossip on Hole 7. The patio with the good light after the round that didn't matter anyway.

She owns one club she likes and can't name the rest. Her bag is mostly snacks, a speaker, and something she probably shouldn't have brought through the clubhouse. The course is just where the drinks are — and she's been saying that since her first round.

She has never read a rule book. She has, however, perfected the art of looking like she belongs while doing absolutely nothing by the book. She plays best when she stops trying, which is immediately.

If the 19th hole is the whole point, she figured that out before anyone.

II. The Carry

What's in
her bag.

Some links pay us a small commission. We only carry what we'd actually carry.

The Cart Girl
Yeti tumbler, wine She brought it from home. It was already half full.
Vacation sunscreen, SPF 30 She's out here for the patio. The patio requires protection.
Oversized sunglasses The tan lines are a souvenir.
Mini portable fan Not for the heat. For the drama of arriving with one.
Hair scarf, silk Because the wind is not going to ruin the moment.
Snack mix, spicy For the cart. Not sharing.
Perfume rollerball Reapplied at the turn. Always.

III. The Ritual

The Round-Day
Ritual.

Before

Packs the cooler before the clubs. Checks the weather for patio conditions, not tee time conditions. Wears something that has no business being on a golf course.

During

Drives the cart like she owns it. Knows exactly which hole has the best view for a photo. Orders a drink at the turn and another one for the back nine that she finishes by Hole 12.

After

Already at the bar. Already ordered. Already telling the story about Hole 7 like it happened to someone else. Closes the tab last.

IV. The Soundtrack

Her
Playlist.

Sun out, drinks up. The cart's already moving.

V. Field Marks

If you're
The Cart Girl,
you…

  1. 01Have driven the cart onto a green and pretended you didn't.
  2. 02Packed a full cooler and called it hydration.
  3. 03Ordered a drink on Hole 4 and another on Hole 10 to be safe.
  4. 04Wore heels to the clubhouse after and didn't change shoes.
  5. 05Said I'm here for the vibes and meant it literally.
  6. 06Can't name more than three clubs in your bag.
  7. 07Have been told this isn't that kind of course at least once.
  8. 08Took a photo of your drink instead of your shot.
  9. 09Left the course sunburnt in the exact shape of your sunglasses.
  10. 10Have never once checked a leaderboard for anything.

The One She'd Never Trade

The napkin from the first round she played. She wrote I love this on it and it lives in the side pocket.

VI. The Quotables

Her
One-Liners.

  • "Golf is the thing between drinks."
  • "The cooler is packed. The clubs are optional."
  • "I don't have a handicap. I have a reservation."
  • "Hole 19 is the only one I par."
  • "Asked what iron I was using. I said rosé."

The club behind the club.

The waitlist just opened. The drink cart hasn't.
